The Unrhyme

I think, I think and I think,
Of everything but now of ink,
Why is there no ink in pink?
Damn! These rhymes, have no link.

So here, I give it another shot,
To make sense and just rhyme not,
No no no! Again I lost the plot,
My head is where rhymes come to rot!

Now I travel all the way to Khar,
It is known to be the land of Sardars,
By train I go not by my car,
At least this rhyme can be called par.

This post is akin, to moon-walking in an ice rink,
Hence now I stop, before I cause your blood to clot,
I know now as far, I will never be a rhyming star,
See what I did in this last stanza love?

Don't know what...

2011-03-27_15

Today, I had to drive my mom around (this is the weirdest way to start a post). Anyway, I will not get into the details of what and how and just get to the point: it involved going to a school. A very quaint old school in Chembur. It was just one storey tall and looked as if it could do with some upgrades.

This was where I realised a couple of things:

  1. I have not seen a school from the inside in a very long time
  2. I do not know what upgrades schools have currently got compared to ten years back

Due to the above reasons, I could not decide if the school was good or bad (considering it was a Sunday and it was closed for the usual business).

However, I did see a few things that made me think. Outside every class window, there hung these 'sayings' which are supposed to build a strong human character. These were the same lines which we were taught in school. And I was happy that they are still trying to instill them. The world seems so different than what it was when I was in school. It seems just more, layered. Everything is layered. Maybe it always was like this.

I am practical enough to realise that nothing much has changed in the way humans interacted then and the way we do now. The means have changed. But we are still the same fools. Just that new means of interaction have allowed us to do our foolery faster than ever before.

I am sure the people who taught me in school knew about all this. They knew what the world is like. Why did they still tell me these things? I feel cheated by all of them. But I guess if they would have gave us a reality check at 6, all of us would simply dread growing up.

Idon't know what exactly went through my mind when I read these lines. I was not sure if these words hold true. If these words do not hold true, why do we use them to lie to kids? How much longer will we keep trying in vain to create ideal men? It is not possible to do it this way.

I don't know what the solution is. Or maybe, I don't know what the problem is.

Lost in transactions

It is that time of the year, when all the conversations are about slots, packages, profiles and locations. You keep hearing terms like PPT, JD, CTC, LPA etc. This is the time that students across the country go to B-schools for. All their effort, right from the time they started preparing for their battery of entrance exams till they gave the last of their submissions in college, boils down to this. Or so they believe.

Yes, the first job out of a B-school is extremely important. This is the first step of your new and hopefully successful management career and you do not want to get it wrong. But, what is right? I understand that this is a totally subjective question and cannot and will not be the same for everyone. But you can generalise at some point, can't you? Generally, people worry about package quite a bit; quite a bit more than they are supposed to. This is usually the priority for a lot of people, and I don't agree with that.

I have always believed, that if you do what you want to do, do what you would love doing and do what you see yourself doing forever, money will never be lacking. I might sound philosophical, but I do believe that you loving what you do is important. The logic is, if you love whatever you are doing, you will be best at doing that, and no one can not pay the best. This logic is believe has been lost in the cacophony of transactions.

I know I could have done a better job at writing this down. But maybe I am not really loving it that much at present.

Keep Walking...

Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark, in the hopeless swamps of the approximate, the not-quite, the not-yet, the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish, in lonely frustration for the life you deserved, but have never been able to reach. Check your road and the nature of your battle. The world you desired can be won, it exists, it is real, it is possible, it's yours.
